Family Safety Guide
Know who's registered near the places your kids go.
Look up any Illinois address on the public sex offender registry — home, grandparents, the babysitter, school or practice field. It's free, and you can get a free email alert when anything changes.
Free email alerts
We'll email you if someone on the registry moves in, moves away or changes address near one location. Free, always. Nothing is sent until you confirm.
Seasonal safety tips
Talk with your kids
- Agree on a short list of "safe adults" your child can go to for help, and who is allowed to pick them up.
- Use the correct names for body parts and explain that no one should ask them to keep secrets about touching.
- Tell them they won't be in trouble for telling you if something made them uncomfortable — even if they broke a rule.
- Know who your children spend time with online, too. Most apps have parental controls worth turning on.
Most harm to children comes from someone they already know, not a stranger, and most people who harm children are not on any registry. A registry search is one tool among many.
