About the data
NearbyOffenders.com is an independent website. It is not run by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the Illinois State Police (ISP), the U.S. Department of Justice, or any government agency.
Where it comes from
Every listing comes from the public Illinois Sex Offender Registry that the Illinois State Police publishes under the Illinois Sex Offender Community Notification Law (730 ILCS 152). We republish only what ISP makes public. We do not add information from other sources, and we do not add commentary or opinions about anyone listed. Photos are loaded directly from ISP's public registry.
We do not show anyone who is under 18. We also do not show anyone whose birth date is missing or unreadable, because we can't confirm they are an adult.
How current it is
We download ISP's full public registry and replace our copy each time. Anyone who has been removed from the official registry is removed here at the next update. Each listing shows the date our copy was last checked against ISP's registry. Registry information can change at any time, so a listing may be out of date by the time you see it.
What the registry does and doesn't tell you
- People are on the registry because of a conviction or other qualifying finding under Illinois law, not because anyone has assessed them. ISP has not evaluated any individual's risk of reoffending and makes no claim that anyone listed is currently dangerous.
- Some registry details, such as addresses, are reported by the registrants themselves and may be wrong or out of date. ISP does not guarantee the accuracy of the registry, and neither do we.
- The registry only covers registrable offenses. It is not a complete criminal history, and the absence of a listing does not mean an area has no offenders.
- Map locations are estimated from the street address using the U.S. Census Bureau's address database and are approximate. A pin may not sit on the exact building. Always go by the street address, never by the pin alone.
Free official sources
You can search the official registry, and sign up for free email notifications, at the Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry and the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW). Always confirm information with the official registry before relying on it.
Terms of Use
By using NearbyOffenders.com you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Who can use the site
You must be at least 18 years old. The site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Permitted use
You may use the site for personal and family awareness of who is registered near a location. You agree that you will not:
- use any information on the site to harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk, or harm anyone listed, their family members, or anyone else at their address. Misusing registry information to commit a crime or to harass someone may violate Illinois criminal law and can be prosecuted;
- use the site for any purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. See Not a consumer report below;
- copy, scrape, or republish listings in bulk, or publicly post or share registrants' addresses;
- try to interfere with the site, get around its safeguards, or access data you are not meant to access.
We may block access for anyone we believe is misusing the site, including harassment or vigilante behavior.
No warranty
The site and all information on it are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Information on the site is not legal advice and does not replace the official registry.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of NearbyOffenders.com will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the site or reliance on its information.
Email alerts
The free alert covers one location per person. Alerts are sent after we receive updated registry data and only describe what the official registry shows. They may arrive late or be missed, for example if the official registry is slow to update or an email is filtered. Do not rely on them as your only source of information. We may suspend alerts for anyone who misuses them.
Listings and removals
Listings reflect the official registry. We never charge anyone to remove, hide, or change a listing, and we do not contact registrants. A listing is removed here when it is removed from the official registry.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. We may update these terms. The effective date at the top of this page shows when they last changed.
Not a consumer report
NearbyOffenders.com is not a consumer reporting agency, and nothing on this site is a "consumer report" under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
You may not use this site, or any information from it, to decide whether to hire, promote, or keep an employee or volunteer; to screen tenants or make housing decisions; or for credit, insurance, licensing, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA. If we learn the site is being used for these purposes, we will block that access.

What we collect
- Searches. When you search an address, click the map, or use "my location," that address or location is sent to our server to find nearby listings. To turn a typed address into map coordinates, the address is also sent to the U.S. Census Bureau's public geocoding service. We do not save visitors' searched addresses or locations to disk. They are kept only briefly in the server's memory.
- Your location. We only ask for your device's location when you tap the location button, and we use it only for that search.
- Free email alerts. If you sign up for an alert we store your email address, the location you chose to watch (as map coordinates and the name you gave it), the distance, and when you confirmed. We use them only to send you alerts about registry changes near that location. Each alert email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and we stop immediately when you use it. Nothing is sent until you confirm from the email we send you (double opt-in). In your first two weeks we also send three short safety-tip emails; each has a one-click link to stop them without turning off your alert.
- Family plan waitlist. If you join the waitlist we store your email, ZIP code, the kinds of places you'd watch and how you'd like alerts, plus the time you agreed to be contacted. We use it only to tell you when the family plan opens.
- Mailer codes. If you arrive from one of our mailers or links with a code (for example
/g/CL-1), the code is remembered in your browser for 60 days and attached to any signup, so we can count how each mailer performs. We only keep totals per code. We don't use tracking cookies or build profiles. - Business inquiries. If you ask about sponsoring the Family Safety Guide or about realtor reports, or contact us as a reporter, we store your name, business, email, optional phone number and message, and our notes on the conversation. We use them only to reply and to handle any agreement with you. Inquiries that don't lead to an agreement are deleted after one year.
- Error reports. If you send a report, we store what you write, the listing it's about, the time, an optional email address you give us (used only to reply), and a one-way scrambled code derived from your network address to limit abuse.
- In your browser. Your agreement to these terms and your last search are saved in your own browser so you don't have to re-enter them. You can clear them by clearing this site's data in your browser.
- Basic server logs. Our server may record technical errors. It does not log the addresses people search.
Service providers and third parties
Alert and waitlist emails are delivered by an email service provider acting on our behalf, which only uses your address to deliver our emails. Registrant photos are copied from the Illinois State Police website to our server and refreshed at least monthly (if our server can't get a photo, your browser loads it from the ISP website instead), and map images load from our map tile provider (currently OpenStreetMap's tile servers), which also receives our site's name, but not the page you are on or what you searched. School and park locations come from OpenStreetMap and are looked up by our server, not your browser. Those services receive your browser's normal request information, such as your IP address, under their own privacy policies.
What we don't do
We do not sell or rent personal information, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or use it for marketing. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Security, retention and breaches
We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold. We keep error reports only as long as needed to resolve them and keep records of our corrections. If personal information we hold is ever breached, we will notify affected people as required by the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from alerts with the link in any alert email. You can ask us to delete your alert signup, waitlist entry, error report or email address at any time using the contact details below.
Corrections and disputes
We take accuracy seriously. If something on this site is wrong, tell us:
- Open the listing and choose Report an error. You can also contact us using the details below.
- We aim to review reports within business days. We compare the listing with the current official registry. If our copy is out of date or our map location is wrong, we fix it or remove it.
- If the official registry itself is wrong, only the Illinois State Police can correct it. Contact ISP's Offender Registration Unit through isp.illinois.gov/Sor. Once ISP updates its registry, our next update will reflect the change.
We never charge for corrections or removals, and listings cannot be bought, hidden or edited for payment.
