Press

For reporters

NearbyOffenders.com is a free, independent map of the Illinois sex offender registry, built for families. Type any Illinois address, town or ZIP code and see everyone on the registry nearby, in one list sorted by distance, with photos on a map. It's launching first in Crystal Lake, and it is not affiliated with the Illinois State Police.

Key facts

• Free for families. Map search, the full list and the school & park overlay cost nothing. Email alerts for one address will be free too.
• Official data only. Listings come from the Illinois State Police registry export, re-checked regularly. Every listing shows the date it was last checked, and anyone can report an error.
• Built to prevent misuse. Every visitor must agree not to harass anyone. There are no comments, ratings or "report a sighting" features, and anyone under 18 is never shown.
• Never pay-to-remove. Listings mirror the official registry. We never charge anyone to remove or change a listing.
• Not a background check. The site is not a consumer reporting agency and may not be used for employment, housing, credit or insurance decisions.

Story ideas for Halloween and back-to-school

• How families can check the streets on a trick-or-treat route, and the safety habits that matter more than any map.
• What the registry does and doesn't tell you: categories, compliance status, and why listings can be out of date.
• Illinois's free official tools, including the State Police registry and its email notifications, and how to use them.

Logos and images

Please don't publish screenshots that show a registrant's name, photo or address together with a specific home. Use the map at town level, or the city pages, which show counts only.
